International Fineline Artist bohenim oct3-23

Visiting from the Netherlands, and originally from Poland, international tattoo artist Kamil or @bohenim will back for his annual visit to Chicago oct 3-23rd. His signature style mixes elements of fineline tattooing with old school blackwork tribal designs and a more modern cyber sigilism twist (check out our style guide for more info on those terms). We've been excited about Kamil's work since he first started visiting us in 2022. Since then his style has developed from the small fineline and abstract blackwork tattoos that he was known for, into full on backpieces and sleeves and full body concepts. He has managed to walk the line between minimalism tattoo design and large scale work. While his designs are seemingly complex because of the overlapping flow and layers as well as the thin linework, the designs themselves are often deceptively simple. Using just solid black and negative space he creates the illusion of a very complex and ornate tattoo. In it's simplicity the design is actually very complex.

Symmetry in tattoo Design

Aside from a strong use of flow and form, another striking element of Kamil's tattooing is his use of Symmetry. Many of his cyber sigilism and tribal designs utilize the lateral symmetry of the human body to create mirror images. This is no easy feat. While seemingly both our left and right sides are the same, the moment you try to mirror anything on the human body you will quickly realize this is not the case. Small differences in our musculature and bone structure quickly become apparent. It takes a great deal of skill to design around this inconsistencies and create the illusion of symmetry. At the same time it can be equally as challenging to design an asymmetrical piece across the entire body that still creates a sense of balance and flow, something Kamil also excels at.
