We went all out and decided we needed to tell the whole neighborhood about it. And what better way to do that than a 40 ft sign down milwaukee avenue. Now, I have to say, I was a little nervous about what that would look like. A forty foot sign? Would it be too loud? well, maybe, but then again we are all about expression and letting people know we're proud of our work and proud of our neighborhood. We've been here for over a decade, watched other businesses come and go, and can say with some authority that we are a bit of a staple to Logan Square as well as the Chicago Tattoo studio scene. we thought it was time to embrace that. After looking around the city for signs we found inspiring, one particular sign maker really grabbed out attention. Ron, owner of precision Signs. Check out this amazing piece he made for us and you'll see why. Next time you're cruising down milwaukee avenue, if it doesn't catch your attention you may just be blind! As a studio we focus on quality, originality, and vision. So it was a real pleasure to work with another likeminded craftsman on developing such a statement piece. Come by, check it out and let us know what you think!

Ornamental Blackwork tattoo

I've Been developing a unique take on Blackwork tattooing over the last few years. These designs are all part of my "Hive" Series which incorporates heavy black, ornamental design, and inkwash tattoo style to create an ethereal looking piece that replicates an organic living structure like a shell or insect hive while at the same time resembling some form of ornament or armor the the wearer has on. This piece was recently completed and is now available as a tattoo.

Some finished blackwork tattoos

Something we've heard a lot from our clients is that it's hard to conceptualize larger pieces, especially how they will be worn on the body as opposed to a two dimensional drawing. Gifford recently completed this ornamental blackwork leg sleeve in a similar style. Seeing the work as it's tattooed can help give an idea as to how some of these designs will read and wear on the body. When talking about this work GIfford says "flow and fit is the most important. The subject matter comes second and is almost not important when I'm designing new ideas. I want to see how I can get new shapes to interact in a bold and interesting way on the body wearing it"
